Thwaites Eastern Ice Shelf, West Antarctica:

    November 2022- Febraury 2023

Glaciology | Geophysics | Climate Change

3 month field expedition to Thwaites Eastern Ice Shelf, West Antarctica with Principal Invesitgator Dr. Erin Pettit (Oregon State University), a team of 5 scientists, 1 mountain guide, and 1 filmmaker. As we aim to understand the processes behind this rapidly changing glacier system, we conducted Ice-Penetrating Radar surveys, deployed an array of passive seismometers around five parallel fractures, sampled two 5-meter firn cores, conducted districuted acoustic sensing (DAS) surveys across a basal channel, and raised a weather and GPS tower (named "BOB"). Follow BOB on twitter as we hope it will record the collapse of the ice shelf!

    Tweedsmuir Glacier, British Columbia:

    July 2021

Glaciology | Geophysics | Climate Change

One-week field expedition to Tweedsmuir Glacier with Dr. Dan Shugar (UBC) and Dr. Gwenn Flowers (SFU), studying paleo-changes of the Alsek River system at Turnback Canyon. We conducted Ice-Penetrating Radar surveys across the glacier and sampled paleosols in the Little Ice Age Moraines at Tweedsmuir's terminus.

Botany | Polar Science | Climate Change

2 month summer field assistantship with Dr. Greg Henry (UBC), studying phenological effects of the warming climate on Arctic plants. Based out of an RCMP base that was abandoned in the 1950s at 79 degrees North, this project has been ongoing since the mid 1980s and provides one of the longest ground-based time series of climate change across the High Arctic.
